Mutts on Wheels – 18 Meximutts Make a Run for the Border

divider

xCalifornia is now 18 Meximutts richer. 18 four-legged Latinos who once knew only loneliness, hardship, and helplessness south of the border are now safe and sound here in the Bay Area.

We hope you’ll take the time to take a moment to meet some of the precious crew who undeniably embody the quote that serves as the undercurrent for all that we do: “Where there is life, there is hope”.

Tomasita: Sweet little Tomasita is 100% girl. 5 lbs of feminine charm. Fun loving, sweet as can be, and absolutely determined to make the most out of life. She was wagging her tail non-stop the entire drive north!

x

Leoncita: We admit to being partial to this particularly Mexican brand of wirehair cuties. Leoncita {little lion in Spanish} embodies the mutt-a-licious charm of Mexico’s mixed breed canines. Little and scruffy. Tough, but tender. As kissable as they come.

Pancho: Gentle+ Happy + Goofy.+ Gorgeous = Pancho. This sweet boy was found awaiting euthanasia at the animal control center in Juarez, where he sat with a broken leg and a heartbreakingly optimistic disposition. After being rescued, Pancho was given an orthopedic surgery to repair his leg and recovered quickly and without complication.

He now bounces around like any 6-month-old Golden Retriever pup should, without a care in the world. He is truly a big old lovey-dovey goofball. We adore him.

Colchas: He’s still a wee bit scrawny and more than just a touch scrappy – but that doesn’t seem to bother little Colchas. In fact, not much does. This little guy has an upbeat disposition that is downright infectious. Colchas was given his name, which means blanket in Spanish, after being found starving on the streets with matts so severe they looked like big blankets when shaved off. However, even in that condition this little guy never stopped wagging his tail and trying to kiss the face of anyone he met.

Pulgosa
This gal had the biggest personality of the bunch. Vivacious. Outgoing. A shaggy waggy bundle of fun. Her name means “full of fleas” which she was affectionately given after being found in filthy, horrific conditions, starving in the animal control center where she was awaiting euthanasia.

Pulgosa cleaned up and recovered beautifully after being rescued and now is a devestatingly gorgeous full-coated south of the border beauty. Ooh la la.

Pulga
Seriously folks, this dog is so darn cute it makes it hard to do anything other than stare at her adoringly for hours. Young in age, but wise beyond her years, Pulga is amongst the most delectable mutts we’ve seen in years.

Sahara
Sweet little Sahara was named after the desert, which is where she was found wandering before being picked up and sent to animal control where she would have been euthanized if not for our international rescue program. The climate in Juarez, where Sahara is from, is very dry and arid and the temperatures are extreme. Sahara managed to survive life in such harsh surroundings and we’re so glad she did. This little dog is full of life, love, and sweetness and is bound to make someone a great companion.

Mochis
These ears are always at alert and so is this spry little terrier cross. Another homeless Meximutt gone Gringa – doing the Latina dog population proud!

Jenny
Jenny is so refined it is hard to believe she is was once a homeless Mexican dog. While she looks like she came straight out of the show ring, nothing could be further from the truth. This little gal may clean up nicely, but was once a rough, tough, sharp witted street dog who had to struggle just to survive each day. Lucky for her that past got further and further behind her with every mile we headed north. This fluffy pooch was made to be pampered and she finally will be.

Gerardo
Dapper, sweet, and a bashful, this young dog’s eyes are filled with soul, depth, and a tragic uncertainty that we hope will melt away as he comes to realize that his life will now be filled with nothing but love, warmth, and companionship.

Mario
Mario is what we call Juarez- sheik. Ratty wirey hairdo, big brown eyes, sweet soft demeanour – this little man has it all. A true rescue, this guy was found starving and covered with mange before being taken into our care.

Peke
Blink and you could miss this guy. His body may be little, but his personality isn’t. At just four pounds you’d think he may be a bit more intimidated by life and all the large stuff it has to over, but not Peke. He is young, playful, outgoing and absolutely freaking adorable.

Sandra
Soft sweet Sandra is gentle and patient. An absolutely beautiful mixed breed dog with the warmth, gratitude, and sweet spirit that make us proud to be doing rescue work.

Camila– aka “Munch”
Camila is a sweet Beagle that was found starving and homeless on the streets of Juarez, Mexico – but those days are far behind her now. She was fortunate enough to get adopted by Compassion without Border’s long-term friends the Theodores in Sacramento, California where she is now adored by the entire family and has fast become best friends with their other dog. Here she is sleeping with her new best friend, Grace Theodore, warm and cozy and quickly adapting to the life of a pampered Gringa!

Kaleb
This sweet little guy is currently hanging out CWOB cofounder Christi Camblor’s house while he undergoes treatment for the heartworm disease he was diagnosed with after being rescued from the animal control center in Juarez, Mexico. He acts a little reserved upon first meeting new folks, but quickly reveals his playful puppy side once he is assured you mean him no harm. He is an absolute doll that will undoubtedly go on to live a long, happy life once he is treated. We absolutely adore him.
