2009’s First Round of Meximutts Head North

On January 31st CWOB made our trip north with the year’s first group of rescue dogs from Juarez, Mexico. 14 dogs in total joined us in our rescue van; each one anxious to start their new life as officially pampered US canines.

Every one of these dogs would have been left to languish on the streets or die at animal control centers in Mexico if not for the CWOB international rescue program and our tireless local partners from Aprodea in Juarez, Mexico. And, life before rescue was rough for every one of these sweet meximuuts, who have beat seemingly insurmountable odds.

Yet, after just a few months of rest and care south of the border in fostercare, every one is ready for the challenge of finding their forever homes with our rescue partners Center for Animal Protection and Education {CAPE} and Small Dog Rescue.

Meet a few of 2009’s very first K9
Mexi-Immigrants!

Save a Life

Kiki

Kiki is five pounds of pure cuteness. She appears to be a little Yorkie cross and comes complete with a scruffy coat topped by a silver mohawk! Her favorite activities are cuddling, playing, cuddling, and, well, cuddling some more.

Kiki was rescued from the animal control center in Juarez where she was found hiding in the corner of a large pen with over 20 or so much larger dogs.

Kiki was fortunate enough to have been adopted by Kim Pacini and Dick Haunch, wonderful CWOB supporters and proud parents of Pipi – a meximutt rescue from a few years ago who has lived the life of a pampered princess since being taken into their home {and even has a car seat that warms up to keep her toasty during those chilly car rides here in Northern California, talk about luxury!}

Tomas

Tomas is one of our personal favorites. He’s everything you want in a dog and then even just a little bit more.

He rescued himself, strolling right into one of our spay camps south of the border and patiently waiting at the door each day until we took notice of him. He is calm, self-assured, gentle and has a sense of self-dignity that is undeniably refreshing. He commands your respect, earns your love, and rewards you with the tenderness of his interactions.

Check out Tomas hanging with the gang in his current foster home with foster mom extraordinaire {and proud meximutt mom of 2 sweet rescue pooches} Rena Cochlin of CAPE.

From the harsh streets of Mexico to the pampered life of couches, kitties, canine buddies, and cuddly blankets. Way to go Tomas!

Tony

Little Antonio knows how to work a crowd. He pretty much just needs about 60 seconds to convince you that he is amongst the most handsome, refined, adorable little Mexican dachshund mixes you’ll ever meet. He approaches you softly, leans up against you, and then goes in the for the kill – placing his paw on your leg while leaning back and staring deep into your eyes.

His cute little legs may be a bit short for his lanky little body, but everyone knows great things often come in small packages and his stumpy proportions make him that much cuter!

Merlina

Feminine, light on her feet, loving and coy – Merlina is a Mexican diva with a soft spot for chin rubs and a warm lap!

Little Apple

Little apple has a divinely expressive face, which adorns her irresistibly kissable little body. Well mannered and quite the lady, this fun loving little Chihuahua mix will make some lucky family a wonderful companion.

Chispita

If she were any cuter, she would be illegal! What more can we say?

Simba

It was hard to even tell Simba was a schnauzer when he was first rescued, he was so matted and uncared for. However, after some TLC and a dignified hair cut, he revealed himself to be the incredibly handsome purebred gentleman that he is – complete with excellent manners and a very coy and endearing nubby tail wag that brings a smile to all those that he greets.

Petuca and Petaca

These two sisters are essentially black and beige versions of the same dog physically – although each has their own distinct personality. Petuca {the beige one} hides her boisterous and loving interior behind a fairly shy facade. Petaca can hardly stand herself when she first meets you and wants to kiss your face and become best friends pretty much immediately. Too darn cute, really – wouldn’t you agree?

Bingo

This handsome beagle decided life on the streets of Mexico was far too harsh for a dog as regal and refined as himself and is eager to live the life of a spoiled, dapper dog here in the US of A. His handsome expression is really too much to bear and those chocolate brown eyes are lethal!

China

By the time our foster folks in Juarez were done with China, they may have overcompensated for her malnutrition upon rescue and given her just a few too many treats... This well-rounded meximutt is a classic Benji look-alike dog with a few extra pounds – all the better for squeezing and loving!
