Meximutts -- Spring Break ’09

For the past few weeks to months a dozen or so Meximutts have been dutifully preparing for their immigration north. Safe in their foster homes in Juarez, Mexico these canine travelers have been undergoing physical and emotional recuperation after all having been rescued from harrowing circumstances south of the border.

On April 13th the latest group will make their trip north to California, where they will all be adopted out via our partner organizations CAPE, Small Dog Rescue, and the Yolo SPCA.

Meet a few of the faces of our Meximutt Spring Break ’09 Crew

 

Blanquito

These sweet little guy is blind and was rescued off the streets where he had done an amazing job of surviving with his disability. Covered in matts and very thin, he had clearly been struggling. But one crew cut and lots of dog treats later, he is doing just fine and has made a complete recovery. He reportedly navigates his way around with an amazing amount of grace and dignity and is a loving, gentle soul.

 

 

Canela

This sweet little Chihuahua cross reportedly rolls over and wags her tail whenever she meets people, begging for belly rubs and making friends right off the bat

 

 

 

Pirata

Poor sweet Pirata was found severely injured roaming the streets. Her eye had been traumatized and was literally hanging out of the socket when she was found. Pirata underwent surgery and is now doing great as a one eyed sweetie who will never again have to face such awful hardships.

Oso

This handsome Sheltie cross was found awaiting euthanasia at the local animal control center in Juarez where he sat in a large crowded pen cautiously hidden in a corner. Barely able to walk, he had severe fractures to the bones in one of his wrists, and preferred to lay low than expose his vulnerability to the other dogs in the cage.

Oso was rescued as he was being led out to the euthanasia table and subsequently has been recuperating in a foster home in Juarez with a splint for his fracture and lots of nurturing and reassurance for his soul.

 

 

Poncho

This handsome poodle mix was nearly dying of starvation when he was saved.

 

 

 

 

Soren

Poor Soren was brought to the animal control center to be euthanized after struggling for several days with a difficult labor. Soren was rescued, given an emergency cesarean where it was discovered she had been bred with a much larger dog and one of the large pups was stuck in her birth canal. Soren remained critical for several days, but has since bounced back and made a full recovery.

 

Whiskey

Whiskey was found on the side of the road where he sat guarding another dog who had been hit by a car and, tragically, had died. Sweet Whiskey was gently carried away and has been recovering in foster while he awaits his trip north.
