2009: Expanding our plans for hope and transformation

Each year CWOB expands a bit more, pushing our current programs further and starting up new projects to help achieve our goal of humane reform for the animals. Standing on the brink of 2009, we find ourselves taking stock in the progress we’ve made and looking forward at the horizon toward the problems we’ve yet to tackle.

One certainty is our plans to continue spaying and neutering. We’ll continue our stationary spay/neuter clinic in Juarez, Mexico and hope to open it up as a training center for veterinarians throughout Mexico to come to train on up to date high volume, high quality sterilization techniques. We’ll continue operations at our Anapara clinic and will also plan several spay camps throughout the year, bringing the spay/neuter solution to a variety of areas throughout the country. Additionally, we plan to help several key cities in the state of Chihuahua furnish stationary governmentally operated sterilization clinics, training their personnel and helping to set high quality medical protocols.

Another program that we’re proud to continue is our international rescue. Since 2002 we have been helping homeless dogs from Mexico – rescuing them from backgrounds of neglect and cruelty and finding them homes in Northern California. Our rescue will continue to be primarily based out of Ciudad Juarez and we’ll continue to implement our high standards of medical care, stringent voluntary quarantine, and loads upon loads of TLC and adoration for the wonderful Meximutts.

An area CWOB plans to expand is in the arena of humane education. We hope to aggressively promote our Sabias Que program and develop a wider variety of Spanish speaking educational materials for children and adults.

Humane euthanasia will remain a focal point on our radar for 2009, with hopes to expand our program to new states around the country, working toward our ultimate goal of the eradication of the horrific practice electrocution as a means of killing unwanted animals in Mexico.

Finally, CWOB is in the process of developing plans to work with Latino communities right here in the US in 2009 and beyond. These communities are often underserved by local shelter and animal advocacy groups due to language and cultural barriers. We hope to reach out to them and provide them with access to affordable spay and neuter and wellness service for their companion animals.
