Helping Mexico’s Poorest Animals – Project Anapra is finally launched, but we need your help!

Anapra is one of Mexico’s poorest regions. It is a suburb on the outskirts of the border town of Juarez. It is an area where most residents live without electricity, running water, or paved roads. It is an area full of immense hardship for both the human and animal populations that live there.

Dog in AnapraCWOB has held several week-long spay camps in the region and  have been trying to launch a program called Project Anapra for almost 2 years. [Click here for PDF file with full overview of Project Anapra].

The comprehensive program is geared at reducing the number of unwanted, free roaming breeding animals, improving their overall health, and providing basic food and housing for these animals. We envisioned this program as being a highly innovative project that would  not only bring about great change for the animals of Anapra, but that could also be used as a model project for poor neighborhoods throughout developing countries.

The program consists of five basic components:

  1. Free spay/neuter

  2. Free monthly health clinics with basic wellness services such as vaccination, parasite control, wound management, etc

  3. Access to a local pet pantry where there would be free pet food, flea and tick control, and other basic supplies for the residents of Anapra

  4. Free dog houses for the dogs of Anapra, who are subjected to horrible weather extremes with no protection from the elements

  5. Humane education campaign for the area’s residents with basic information on animal care, spay/neuter, and the humane treatment of animals

girl and dogCWOB has recently been fortunate enough to find the funding for the free health clinics and pet pantry portion of the project, so we are starting there. However, we still desperately need to find funds for the spay/neuter component, dog houses, and humane education campaign. If you can contribute anything at all towards this important project, please click here!

In addition, we need help collecting donations for the Pet Pantry. We will drive the donations down each time we do a dog rescue and they will be wherehoused in a pantry in the area and distributed once a week to the neighborhood’s residents.

This project promises to bring about meaningful change for thousands of animals and will serve as a model for millions more worldwide –  please help us and become a part of this landmark project!!!!
