"If You Spay, They Will Come": A small town is ready to bargain - lives for sterilizations.

Dog in the back of a truck in mexicoDuring our last spay and neuter clinic in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Chihuahua local officials from Villahumada a small town in the middle of the Mexican state, came to see what we were doing.

They had heard of our free sterilization clinics and wanted to see us in action firsthand. Impressed by the magnitude of the clinic and the high quality services we offer the animals, they asked if we could bring one of our weeklong free sterilization camps to their town, where stray animals are a longstanding community problem which has recently grown out of control.

Sadly, the current method of animal control in Villahumada consists of throwing out poisoned meatballs for stray animals. Compassion without Borders let officials know that if we agreed to bring spay/neuter clinics and training to their region they would have to commit to stopping the mass poisonings. An agreement was made and we will be bringing our next spay and neuter camp there for the week of October 23rd. The poisonings have already been stopped in anticipation of the clinic and the local government has shown enormous enthusiasm and support for the sterilization effort.
