Ending Electrocution in Obregon, Mexico

antirrabico onregon

Compassion without Borders has been working to end electrocution in animal control centers south of the border for over a decade. In April, we held a training that successfully stopped the practice in Obregon, Mexico.

Partnering with our local friends at Adopta Obregon, we were able to implement a humane euthanasia training at the animal control center and switch their facility over to humane euthanasia by injection as practiced in the U.S.

The two-day training ended with the department of health handing over the cables that had been used for electrocution to us so that we could destroy them, ensuring they would never be used on an animal again.

This is a hard program, but an important one. We will continue to implement sustainable solutions to work at the root of overpopulation in Mexico, but until the day comes when homeless animals are no longer euthanized south of the border, the least we can do is make their final moments as comfortable, dignified and humane as possible.
