Compassion Without Borders has had a presence in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico for over 10 years. The city is filled with thousands of homeless animals starving and suffering in the streets. Some have serious medical conditions; others are victims of shocking cruelty; none deserve what they have endured.
Our efforts have alleviated much pain and reduced the homeless animal population, but far too many animals continue to experience stress and misery. Our work has only begun.
CWOB rents four facilities in Puerto Peñasco – our clinic, an adult dog shelter, a cat shelter, and a puppy orphanage. Each building is in a different part of town, which makes our work inefficient and more costly. We spend $2,100 each month on rent for these facilities, and we’re bursting at the seams at each of them. Because we don’t own the spaces, we have limited ability to modify them to fit our needs, and as renters, we’re vulnerable to the wishes of our landlords. Each facility is dated and worn, with old pens and cages and inadequate room for the animals to stretch their legs and play. The cramped quarters also make it difficult to control the spread of disease.
In short, our facilities hamper our lifesaving efforts.
