The Journey of a Lifetime
Latest International Rescue Effort
The journey of a homeless Mexican dog, from the hard streets south of the border to a loving home in northern California, is a long one. And, it is one that warrants true celebration, each and every time.
It all begins when the animals are taken in after being rescued directly off the streets, or abandoned. Then, they must be healed, emotionally and physically, at one of our south of the border shelters, with the dedicated support of our Mexican veterinary team.
Next is several months of receiving care and prepping for their big migration north to Muttopia, our safe space for rescued dogs co-created with the Center for Animal Protection and Education. During this time they receive ongoing medical care and are vaccinated, spayed and neutered, and given all that they need to be healthy for the trip.
And then they get to meet our US transport team, who heads down, performs one last physical exam and check on the dogs, and then loads them up and makes the two-day journey north in our rescue van.
And finally, they make it to Santa Rosa. They are greeted by amazing team members and volunteers, and their lives as US Citizens officially begin.
Our latest group of beautiful dogs arrived on Saturday, March 25th. Each resilient soul is a true survivor and we are so grateful to everyone who makes it possible for these dogs to make this journey towards the life they deserve; lives filled with safety, dignity, compassion and love.
