Fish: One little kitten, one big leap of faith

Sometimes, a little hope goes a long way. Such is the case with Fish, a darling little kitten rescued when she was just four weeks old, weighing under a pound.

We found Fish sitting in a cage in the back of a trailer in Fresno. She was, quite frankly, a delicate mess. Tiny, not even a pound. Two infected eyes and a raging respiratory infection. Her thin frame draped in a dirty coat. It was heartbreaking.

Anna Hill, CWOB team member and RVT who was volunteering her time on the rescue, says this about first seeing Fish, “She was so tiny and already had so much working against her,  I knew we needed to take her and get her care.”

We rescued Fish and she went into foster care with Jordan Gilliland, another amazing RVT team member. Jordan provided her with lifesaving veterinary care around the clock and, with time, she began to thrive.

I remember being so worried about her when she first arrived. She was so critical. But then, with time and lots of care, she began to get better. Before I knew it, she was thriving and playing and romping just like a regular, happy kitten,” says Jordan.

Fish took several months of care before she was ready to be adopted. Her eye infection was so severe she does have permanent loss of sight in one eye and only partial in the other.  But that doesn’t slow her down for one minute

“You’d never know Fish had any issues with her vision,” says Jordan. “She gets around just fine and enjoys life to the fullest each minute of the day.”

Fish now has a forever home, living with a loving adopter who reports that she has settled in beautifully and is doing great.

We took a leap of faith when rescuing sweet Fish, and we are so glad we did. We take that leap time and time again for the animals, and it is, without exception, always worth it.
