The Department of Health in Nogales, Mexico is asking Compassion without Borders to help them stop electrocution as the means of killing unwanted animals in their town.
This is yet another huge step forward in the struggle to end electrocution all together in Mexico. Sadly, electrocution is the main method to kill unwanted animals in Mexico. This barbaric method causes pain and needless suffering and must be stopped.
Since 2004, Compassion without Borders has been working to end electrocution and replace it with humane euthanasia by injection as practiced in the U.S. To date, we have stopped the cruel practice throughout the entire state of Chihuahua and in two neighboring animal control centers in the state of Sonora {read more about our existing programs here}.
Recently, a huge victory for the animals of Mexico was won when the state of Mexico, home to Mexico City and 9 of the largest animal control centers south of the border, banned electrocution.
Now yet another region of Mexico is ready to outlaw the practice and Compassion without Borders is determined to make it happen.
Our plan is to hold a humane euthanasia training in November and to provide all the oversight, training, and supplies needed to end electrocution and switch to euthanasia by injection by the beginning of the next year.
The government of Nogales has agreed to cover half of the cost of the euthanasia solution the first year, and to take over the full cost in 2013.
We estimate that the cost of the training, supplies, and half of the medication for 2012 will cost just $2,500.00. The animal control center handles over 1,000 animals annually, making the cost of this important project just around $2.50 per animal.
For less than the price of a coffee, we can spare these poor animals unthinkable suffering.
We need your help in raising this modest amount in order to move forward on the project. We cannot undertake this transformation without raising the funds first, as our shoestring budget is already stretched to the limit.
Please donate to this important project today.
The end of electrocution of unwanted animals in Mexico is on the very near horizon and we must continue to move forward toward this critical goal.
Donate toward our humane euthanasia program in Nogales today! We must raise $2,500 to reach our goal and help these animals in need.
